The absolute "best" theory of autism cause that I've heard yet

Mentioned here Thimerosal Exposure Declines, Autism Rates Increase, and a Note About Myself

"From my own observation: Moms of autistic kids are party goers or ex-party goers. Leaves me to think that birth control or drugs is the cause."

It's actually a close second to the theory that autistic kids are sent here by aliens to be emissaries to the rest of the world (kind of difficult if they're non-verbal I'd say), but the "party-going mom" one is pretty classic too.

And I knew that the anti-vaccine people weren't going to take the new study lying down- so far my favourite theory that they've come up with is that the large amount of immigrants coming from thimerosal using countries account for the increase. Sometimes you just have to laugh so that you don't scream.

I found your blog by way of casdok. I have to say I was never much of a partier. I guess I don't live up to somebody's expectations? And now people are just grasping at straws with that theory, thin straws at that.

Well, I was a partier, but I don't think that means very much :-)

But yes, grasping at straws is a good way to put it- I just hope that at some point people start thinking more about how to help their kids than getting all wrapped up in their pet causes about autism.

Oh my gawd, that's horrible! You must feel so outraged when you hear utterly insensitive comments like that. Partying mom = autistic kids? *disgust* And I think that 90% of young women today have used birth control pills at some point in their lives... that's hardly the cause. And my cousin (whose son falls somewhere on the autism spectrum, but probably nearer to Asperger syndrome) certainly was not the partying kind (social phobia)... and actually, she never took birth control pills.
