No matter what you think about the Newfoundland Seal Hunt (if you think about it at all)
CBC News: N.L. premier takes on ex-Beatle over seal hunt

Lifehacker has a good article on whether to toss your old computer or do some work on it and make what you want.
I'm a cauliflower freak
And it looks like this is going to go well with steak tonight.
This is modified from a recipe in Bon Appetit magazine. It makes a terrific side dish for steaks, chops, and other grilled meats.
2 lbs cauliflower florets
1 medium onion
2 tsp curry powder
3/4 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp black pepper
6 TB dry bread crumbs
2 large eggs
olive oil
vegetable oil
Cook the cauliflower in boiling water until tender. Drain and mash with a fork or process in a food processor until fairly smooth, with some small chunks remaining. Mince onion finely and sauté in 1 TB olive oil for about 10 minutes until just starting to brown. Remove from heat and stir in curry powder and cumin for 30 seconds. Mix onion, cauliflower, breadcrumbs, eggs, pepper, and salt to taste. Using your hands form into patties about 1/2 inch thick and 4 inches in diameter. sauté in 1/8" vegetable oil until browned on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Place on paper towels to drain and keep warm in a 250 degree oven while cooking the remaining patties.

A difficult article to read
A Washington Post interview and article with the only female guard from Ravensbruck ever to come forward and tell her story. It's gut-wrenching- while I applaud her seeming bravery in trying to "explain" and for becoming a focus and impetus for new research, there are still a lot of things that I'm a loss to explain about human beings and what they're capable of.
The best Journalling software that I've ever found
It does almost everything except write the journal for you- great quotes, prompts, search capabilities, graphing tools...well worth checking out if you like to journal on your computer (offline).

The silliest thing that I've seen all day
Sure to bring the ladies running
I mean...seriously, guys! I'm sure that there are a percentage of women who are drawn to jocks and winning rings, but for FANTASY sports? That thing is ugly enough on it's own without having the fact that it's a make-believe sport emblazoned all over it.
GREAT Canadian recipes!
I love waking up to one of these every day in my inbox, and they've also got a good searchable database when you have no idea what to do with your cauliflower. Definitely one of my favourite recipe sites.

Ugh
Fortunately one of my friends just stopped by with goodies from Rheo Thompson Candies for me...at least now I can be miserable and full of chocolate :-)

Autism, Diet, and Laughter
And a very impressive blog as well- lots of information on autism among other things. I'm going to be spending a lot of time here today.
Only four more days!
And the kids love it- it's like fairyland to them. How great to be able to spend a day wandering around in WARMTH, looking at great exhibits.

Strange afflictions
A scary list of things that you just don't want to end up with. Although Penis Panic is pretty funny.
Turning a departed pet into a cool work of art
I'm just not sure that I could have my pet still around. Her work is pretty amazing though.

I've been using
to explain to my 10 year olds exactly how it is that models look so stunning in magazines. It's nice to see that one of them is getting some healthy skepticism about society's concept of beauty now, and these pictures helped that a bit.
Hmmm...I'm not really sure what to say about this
But it's got some great photography of some very hairy dogs. Kind of funky music for this early in the morning though.

I'm not into "cute"
(and they get bonus points for coming up with a new strategy to help future breeding).
